Cajun Music Companion CD Announcement
Published April 23rd, 2006 in News
Well, it’s been a long time coming. Ann Allen Savoy has agreed to work with us to create a CD containing much of the music and audio interviews that compile her “bible” of Cajun and Zydeco music history. First published by her own Bluebird Press in 1984, Ann’s book, Cajun Music, A Reflection of a People, Volume I, has long been regarded as the premier literary collection of the history of Cajun and Zydeco music and culture. With its wealth of interviews, sheet music, instructions on how to play Cajun instruments, and summaries of the substantial research she conducted, the tome has provided musicians and fans with a rare quality educational resource. It is one of few ways to get to know many of the individuals that embodied what it means to be Cajun, not famous or wealthy, just true.
The Cajun Music compilation CD we are assembling will include much of the original material that inspired the book, as well as literary commentary from Mrs. Ann herself. Look forward to seeing it in the Fall of 2007, just in time for Festivals Acadiens. Bookmark the Valcour Records RSS feed to stay updated!
