Valcour Records will be releasing the debut record from the Figs, an all female old-time music band (to narrow it down probably too much). These Lafayette girls have been tearing it up around the local music scene and will be featured at the upcoming Black Pot Festival, of which Valcour is a sponsor.

The Figs are:
Caroline Helm — Rhythm Guitar
Sarah Gray — Lead Guitar
Jillian Johnson — Ukelele, Mandolin
Claire Oliver — Banjo
Melissa Stevenson — Bass
Paige Pemberton — Drums
Addie Kean — Bells
The Figs — Vocals

If your looking for spunk, beautiful harmonies, and easy-on-the-eyes performances, these are your ladies. For proof, here is their description of themselves from their MySpace page:
“The proper way to eat a fig, in society,
Is to split it in four, holding it by the stump,
And open it, so that it is a glittering, rosy, moist, honied, heavy-petalled four-petalled flower.
Then you throw away the skin
Which is just like a four-sepalled calyx,
After you have taken off the blossom with your lips.

But the vulgar way
Is just to put your mouth to the crack, and take out the flesh in one bite.

Every fruit has its secret.”
