August Artist of the Month: The Figs

Just a couple of years ago, this group of girls got tired of watching their friends jam out at parties without them. So, they got together to try their hands at playing and singing their own favorite songs - just for the heck of it. Whoops, the dynamic sound that resulted was enough to steal the hearts of many fans in the Lafayette area. After a few practices and gigs, it was clear they had something special.

As they have evolved their skills in playing and songwriting and learned to work together like magic, they have built a significant national fan base and an impressive repertoire. Now, their haunting harmonies and eclectic energies have launched them into becoming one of Louisiana’s hottest acts - getting hotter all the time.

Our latest Artist of the Month entry features tracks from their fantastic new album, What Keeps Me Up At Night. Enjoy!

Valcour Artist of the Month for August 2008: The Figs

Joel Savoy Wins Fiddler of the Year Award

Cajun French Music AssociationWe are excited to announce that Valcour’s very own Joel Savoy has been voted “2007 Fiddler of the Year” by the Cajun French Music Association! A ‘hired gun’ of sorts and a young veteran of the scene, Joel has been picking up gigs with what seems like everyone around Southwest Louisiana over the past several years due to his versatility, adaptability and quick ear. His hard work payed off last Friday night at the Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette where he received his award at the CFMA’s Le Cajun ceremony.

As it happened, Joel was performing onstage with Chris Miller and Bayou Roots when the winner was announced. Several awkward photos and a brief and to-the-point speech (”Thank you very much”) later, he held the legendary ‘tit fer-shaped token. Congratulations, Joel, it is well-deserved.
