Valcour Artists in Best of the Beat

Vote for Valcour artists in Best of the Beat HERE!

In addition to their Best of the Beat nominations, Feufollet and Cedric Watson both made it into offBeat’s top twenty for 2008 – see the list here.

You may recall Valcour’s strong showing in offBeat Magazine’s 2007 Best of the Beat awards, where we took away the “Best Cajun Album” award for Allons Boire un Coup and received the prestigious “Record Label of the Year” honor from the Best of the Beat business awards.

Well, we hope to make a strong showing again this year (2008) as Valcour artists are all over the ballot! For a full listing of nominees, please visit the offBeat website. Below we have listed the categories featuring Valcour Artists:

December Artist of the Month: Tiffany Lamson

This month we are featuring one of the busiest little musicians in the state of Louisiana. She plays rock, jazz, cajun, and pop – you name it! She has worked with Valcour (see Allons Boire un Coup) and with a couple of our previous Artists of the Month.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Tiffany Lamson.

Newsflash: H. Fuselier gives Triangle 6 out of 5!

Herman Fuselier

Herman Fuselier

“As a music writer, I rate CDs from 1 to 5. A 1 is “Poor, don’t bother” and 5 is “Classic – a must for serious collectors.” In all my years as a reviewer, I’ve never given any artist a 5 – until now. The earthquake-like power, uncharacteristic style, and lustful, raw emotion of “Christine Balfa Plays the Triangle” command a 6. And that’s just on an mp3 sample from the CD.
The smiles on the faces of Cajun saints in the triangle section of Heaven say, ‘Well done, my child.’”

Cedric Watson Nominated for a Grammy!

Category 72: Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album

Category 72: Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album

The nominations are in and Cedric made the cut with his debut solo cd out on Valcour!

Valcour’s own Joel Savoy produced and engineered Cedric’s cd, and it features the photography of Lucius Fontenot and visual design by Phillip LaFargue. Joel also recorded and mixed the Pine Leaf Boys album (also nominated), Homage au Passé.

Most of all, congratulations Cedric and all the musicians that came together for the project! (click here for full list of musicians)

While we are dissappointed that Feufollet’s fantastic Cow Island Hop album didn’t quite make it, the blow is softened by some very kind words from the Pine Leaf Boys’ Wilson Savoy, which you can read on their website:
Thanks!, but what about Feufollet?

The full list of Grammy nominees can be found here, but the nominees list for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album is below (click “continue reading” link):

Feufollet and Cedric Watson were both recently reviewed with high marks by Sing Out, the quintessential folk misic magazine out of Bethlehem, PA. A couple of quotes:

About Cedric:
“Cedric Watson may still be a young man, but his abilities as a musician and composer place him firmly among the finest Creole musicians.”

About Feufollet:
“…virtuoso, painstaking musicianship that totally belies their years.”
